Hi to all, I was asked recently about how do you go about getting your casa (civil aviation safety authority ) welding certification welding ticket. What are the prerequests to apply and sit for this ticket.
Are there a number of tickets that you can sit for as you can in WTIA welding certifications and what are they? The other question was where can you do these courses and what are the costs and is this the only way that you can work in this industry or can you be employed and trained and do an internal exam. I live in melbourne so local info would be great and also anything aussie wide for all other members and guests. Keen for any info.

Hi Dobre I was asked to sit one years ago but declined on the ground s that one has to certify (think it was six monthly) The high costs involved negated the potential income relative to the country area where I lived at that time. Its has nothing to do with the WTIA as far as I know.I haven't been a member for years-again costs. Heres a link that may help www.casa.gov.au/airworth/awb/02/005.htmGrumpy

Hi Grumpy, i think that you need a minium requirment of a certified welder. To do any tig work you ned your tig welding ticket WTIA or equivilent (spelling?). I also think that you are right in relation to the costs involved and is it justified. I think there is only one tafe school here in melb offers this course in turn it works hand in hand with aerospace factory in a nearby suburb. The tafe school is Kangan Batman TAFE. I found some more info and have listed it below. Thanks for your reply. Dobre
WTIA Welding Certification Requirements
To sit for the Welding Technology Institute of Australia (WTIA) welding certificate, you must have one of the following:
* A completed apprenticeship in a recognised trade and at least one years' experience in this welding process during that time.
* Two years' welding experience and written evidence of the successful completion of one or more welding courses conducted by an accredited training provider. This training must include at least 300 hours of approved training in this welding process.
* Three years' welding experience and during or subsequent to this, 40 hours' approved training in this process.
* Other qualifications or experience considered to be appropriate by the Examining Authority to be equivalent to the above. WTIA welding certification will allow the welder to meet the requirements of statutory authorities and industry demands for a prescribed degree of quality assurance. It is carried out in accordance with Australian Standard 1796 which is related to the welding of boilers and pressure vessels. This is also applicable to a wide range of welding applications.
CASA Aircraft Welding Authority
Kangan Batman TAFE offers a comprehensive aircraft welding training package
Some of the items covered include: .
* The welding of exotic alloys
* Your legal responsibilities
* A review of the CASA Regulations.
Kangan Batman TAFE also has the authority to conduct aircraft welding examinations. We can conduct unrestricted examinations, restricted and even joint specific-only approvals.
The prerequisite for eligibility is the WTIA Number 7 Certificate or equivalent. This is a mandatory requirement.
