Even though some us have a welding bench, quite often there are those projects that arise that require multiple positions to hold, tack up or weld your (to be ) welded item .
In my never ending search of aids and knick knacks to assist welding operations , I noticed a picture of a fixture used in wood carving.
Obviously home made, it functions by trapping a motor vehicle tow ball between a pair of steel rings. One is fixed to a C channel and the other a floating unit that compresses the ball against the fixed unit.
This allows the ball to to be secured in any position between vertical and flat. I designed a method of manipulating the frame to rotate 360 degrees while still attached to the bench top by its own clamp. The ball shank has a rolled thread tack welded on which allows attachment of a range of fittings.
I will post more details of components and construction of the project , only if this forum gains some more members .

Hi Grumpy, i would be keen to see some pics of this tool. They may take a bit of time to set up but certainly become very handy when you need it. Dobre..................
