G,day everyone Heres' a thought then. How about a post from everyone to offer "the handiest welding tool I have or have made". I'll start with one. 1. A simple welding finger to hold little jobs in position while they are tacked. Take a 6mm round bar about 350mm long. Cut 50mm off one end with a hacksaw. Bend a 40deg angle at 50mm up on the remainder and tack the 50mm at the bend on the opposite hand to form a pair of legs with an 80 deg included ,internal angle. Make a weight from a big nut or small weight of steel block and drill it to suit 6mm rod. Tap a thread through it an thread in a screw as a lock. grind a pencil point on the single end of the rod and fit the weight on. Bend a right angle at the point end to suit. Bingo you have a welders finger. It will prevent all those nasty words from her indoors as she won't be asked to hold the little jobs in place while you tack. Now don't just read this and bugger off . Get busy and post in a handy welding knick knack or jig that you have or have made. XMAS Cheers ;D from Grumpy

If you like me you are probably in a permanent state of poverty. I like to use whatever I happen to have at hand to create needed tools. The illustration is of the povo trammel head made from 50 x25 RHS .The thread is not shown as I was not able to do a thread in MS Paint A bolt A nut (same thread ) A hardened concrete nail Hope you can use it grumpy

Hi Grumpy, great little trammel head small and compact with no fear of damaging it when dropped. Are you taking orders for it?

Hi Dobre, Sorry mate,
;D I hadn't checked in for a while .It's been hectic It probably would not hurt to knock up half a dozen or so.I had originally thought of it as a fill in project for some of the senior kids. I have a kid in mind who is actually rated special needs but leaves some the other others for dead as far as work ethic goes.
I will get him to make a batch of them 1,for him,1 for me (yours) and a couple for the school. It may take a while ,he is a bit slow, but he works!
You will have to supply your own stick, you understand.

Here some more welding type tools. I always have trouble welding or tacking the fiddlybits. Some cheapy chinese vicegrips and some balls and your in bizness. check it out. SAFETY! SAFETY! SAFETY! A note to those who may wish to use ball bearings.Anneal them first fellas, cos if you attack them with the welder , the stress release may cause them to brittle fracture . Take them up to a dull red colour and let them cool back to room temperature. You have been told OK!!!!***** grumpy
